2/16/2024 0 Comments Dim supplement uses![]() I used to think I was alone in this, but so many on this Reddit have mentioned the same. We usually feel best in days 1-14 (though many of us it’s more like 3-10). On that note, feeling worse when progesterone is high makes sense bc we produce more allopreg then which is GABAnergic. The altered response with GABA receptors in PMDD is well researched. downside is, its a giant horse pill p worst case I figure, is that my liver will be super healthy lol. If you are worried about estrogen metabolites (definitely a possibility- at the moment the lit is just scant, so it is for many aspects of pmdd- my above comment was just taking issue with websites that state this theory as fact when theres no evidence currently), have you thought of trying milk thistle? Im currently trying it for other reasons (some hypotheses I have about estrogen alpha receptors and gaba A antagonists, but thats a whole other story) BUT apparently it also helps liver function, helps clear metabolites out faster- i think including those estrogen metabolites but id have to check. do let us know what the researchers say if they respond! theres a lot of evidence that pmdd folks are slow at regulating responses to the changing hormones (in terms of high > low E and maybe either way for P), so a static level where slow up/down regulation of the appropriate proteins doesnt matter, would bring relief.Ĭurious to hear more about your theory if you dont mind sharing. also, doesnt E start rising when we get our period, coinciding with pmdd relief?Īre you referring to folks that are on hormone blockers/had oophorecomies that dont produce hormones? My take on that is that theyre not experiencing the fluctuations. What do you mean by, we tend to feel best when estrogen/progesterone are lowest? My understanding is that we tend to experience pmdd in luteal- and luteal is characterized by one week of lower E and higher P, and one week of low E and low P. Not saying at all that DIM cant be helpful, just trying to be adamant about clearing up pseudoscience i see floating around the internet with respect to pmdd, since understanding mechanisms of this disorder can be important in finding correct treatments. in addition to being prophylactic against breast cancer. There is a relationship between depression and some of those metabolites, but depression appears to be the cause of increases in those metabolites rather tham the other way around.ĭIM is however a weak agonist of estrogen receptors (beta i think), which does have some potential to alter mood/cognition etc. I did some prodding around in the scientific literature and, while DIM does alter estrogen metabolism, there have been no studies to date (to my knowledge, would love to be proven wrong) on the effects of the different estrogen metabolites on mood. Ive seen this idea going around a lot, that “bad estrogen” causes pmdd, usually on health supplement websites without cited sources.
